While visiting a friend who lives in a fancy schmancy building on west 57th street built in the early 1940's, I noticed this mailbox in the hallway. While he's lived there for two years, he was under the impression that it was merely decorative and quaint. Upon closer inspection, it appears that in fact it does still take mail, but I doubt that 5 cents will get your mail very far.
