This year's fireworks went on as scheduled despite the rainy drizzle that mucked up the entire affair. Usually we have a pretty good front row seat on our roof, but this year the humidity held the smoke from the explosions in the air for the duration of the event, obstructing subsequent fireworks. So for half an hour we heard very loud explosions and saw very small, bright lights peering through thick smoke.
However, there was a simultaneous display going on further downtown that we could see perfectly, though not nearly as eye-poppingly close, as the wind must have been blowing in just the right direction for us.
Happy democracy to all!
