That is actually not Paracas, but Huacachina, the smelly lagoon that also appears on the back of the Peruvian 50 Nuevo Soles bill. It is the center of town, surrounded by restaurants and some paddle boats that you could theoretically rent. You can see the sand dunes behind it, which are truly beautiful. The lagoon is lovely in photos, but a little sketchy in person. This is in a coastal region close to where they grow the grape for wine and, more importantly, Pisco.
